Thank you to more than 2,000 volunteers who
worked along
32 miles of creeks in 2011.
- Nearly 21 tons of garbage were removed from creeks in Sacramento, Citrus Heights, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Galt and unincorporated Sacramento County.
- This year's 10 most interesting Junk & Gunk found items included: Wig, flat-screen TV, antique table, bird cage, plastic brain, crawdad in a bottle, animal trap, rocking horse, play kitchen, duck decoy, and a statuette.
- Volunteers also removed approximately 75 cubic yards of invasive plants including Thistle, Himalayan blackberry and French broom in Sacramento, Folsom and Citrus Heights.
- For the second year, water quality testing was conducted at selected sites.
- Creek Week workshops and field trips were attended by nearly 200 adults and children. Activities included an indoor River Friendly Landscaping workshop, outdoor investigations led by scientists, and outings led by knowledgeable volunteer docents.
We hope everyone enjoyed Creek Week.
